More Hippocampus by Blackmane More Hippocampus by Blackmane
Figured I'd upload one more thing before I jet. I'd have more but the scanner crapped out again, so all you get is digital for now >>

And yeah I kinda crapped out on the background :P

Some folks asked me for a better description,so, here ya go :)

Hippocampi is somewhat of a working title for these beasts of burden for my aquatic race, the Ahkanan. They were used much like we used horses in the days before mechanical travel was available. Hippocampi arent ridden like horses, instead, the swimmer swims alongside the beast with one arm draped over it's neck just in front of the dorsal fin.

Riding along with a hippocampus is quite something- their bodies are not streamlined, but they pack enough power to muscle through currents with ease. Traditionally a shoreline predator, the sharklike beasts may have came to be domesticated in the same way as wolves on earth.

No stealy or it eats you <3

umm im not aware if you know this or not but hippocampus is the name for mythological seahorses in Greek, Phoenecian and eventually Etruscan myths. They appear as horses with thins and tails of fish. Along with many other random myths they were the creatures that drew Poseidon/Neptune's chariot underwater.

However, your concept is amazing and the artwork is something i could never acheive!
Your version of this creature (although not mythologically sound) is exquisite in adaptation and purpose.

I'm aware of the myth :) I personally cant stand cut-and-paste fantasy though, (where you can basicly play construct-a-beast by chopping up things and sewing 'em together with no real blending) so it's more of my take on what creature could possibly bear that kinda name and might actually evolve. Or something XD it was a few years ago. Thanks :)

This is an absolutely beautiful and amazing creature. You did a fantastic job creating him/her, and I love your colors. The body is fantastic, I love the mix of a shark to our four legged animals. Wonderful!

WOW! I really like the way you did the play of light along the skin. It's so realistic and there are so many different colours. Really great job.

Awesome colours. The experimentation you've been doing with textures lately is wonderful, I'm really loving the effect it's having on your art - it adds a whole new level to it.
While I love the colour variation on this and the rather psychadelic mixes you have going, the yellows underneath seem to be throwing me off. Maybe as a whole it should be darker on its underside? He seems a little flat. I'd love to see what fading the tail into the blue a bit could do for this. :D
I think this is a rather neat concept though, it's always great seeing your critters!

Yeah I think this is really the first tip of the texture iceberg for me..gotta break through :) Good idea on the fading, I'll probably adit that in later!
